Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic as well as a public speaker, and Canadian. She founded Feminist Frequency a website that includes videos and comments on portrayals of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic that has received accolades for her work. She is a feminist blogger. She is the author and executive director of Feminist Frequency A scholarly, non-profit website which explores representations of women in popular culture narratives. In her efforts to break down stereotypes related to women in popular culture, she has also been working on issues related the targeted harassment women and different classes of individuals on the internet. A graduate in the field of political and social thinking from York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public presenter and has presented speech at the TEDxWomen Festival as well as the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. As a university student Sarkeesian was interested in the issues surrounding gender and rights for women at an early stage. This ambitious woman planned to create an online series that examined the gender roles in games but was the target of an online harassment campaign. The incident did not deter her, but instead strengthened her resolve as an activist for women in media. Numerous awards have been awarded to her in recognition of her contributions to the field she contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for many years and founded Feminist Frequency. This educational nonprofit explores women's representations within the popular culture stories.
