Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American performer and actress who toured for more than 40 years. London is a torch singer loved for her soft, pleasant vocals and her languid contralto voice she recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 and 1969. The album she released as her debut "Cry Me a River", which she recorded and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. In addition to receiving a recording, London was nominated for an Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her portrayal of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency!. Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she began her career as an actress. London's 35-year acting career began on film in 1944 which included roles for female leads in several westerns, co-starring with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) and with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) and together with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and alongside Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the mid-1950s she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional musical career. In 1969, she released her last studio album. However, she continued to be prominent in the emergency show in the role of Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979), she starred with her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband also produced the show.
